This post miniseries on Cleaning out your Closet is part of my project #minimize: the the project where I get rid of all the things. It’s an awesome project. And it comes from a deep-rooted place in my soul – which is why you should check back on Thursdays to see all of the small yet awesome ways you can downsize clutter and live like a minimalist. If you want to know more about why I’m doing this project, read the first post.
I know, you’re wondering how I jumped from Challenge #3 last week to Challenge #5 this week?! Well, that’s the beauty of blogging – it reflects life. And sometimes life inspires you to clean out ALL OF THE CLUTTER to avoid a meltdown about all of the stuff that your husband doesn’t (have time to) take care of himself. It’s okay. He does SO many other wonderful things around our house and for my family, that I suppose it’s only fair that I do this “for him” (ok, fine, it’s 80% for me and 20% for him).
The backstory (not that you need one).
This morning Max and I were all packed to go to play group when he just had to EAT RIGHT NOW MOMMY! After I set him up with his snack, I went into our closet to grab something and I tripped over a gym bag. And it was not mine. And when I moved the gym bag, there were other things. And I moved those. And suddenly, all of the little corners in the closet were empty and there was a pile of random stuff – bags, clothes, a broken toy (?!), Christmas presents I was hiding from the boys (WAY TO GO, JULIE). Ugh. How. And why???
You get the idea.
It was time. It all had to go.
So I made a pile:
And I separated by responsible party. And the bags were given proper homes. And in the time it took for Max to eat his snack, I was done. And I had a new water bottle! Sorry intended recipient. It’s mine now!
So I challenge you to take an honest look in the corners of your closet. Are there things there that just don’t belong? Find them a home. Or send them packing.
Why? Because this is SO much better!
Next week I get back in order with Minimize Your Wardrobe Challenge #4.
